Ayurvedic Head Massage [IN-PERSON]

May 25, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm UTC+0

Ayurvedic head massage is an ancient Indian massage practice that uses a copious amount of herbal oil on the scalp, shoulders, and face, to relax all areas above the clavicle, and induce a state of calm restfulness. This practice tonifies and softens the hair, relaxes the mind and sense organs, relieves stress and tension, and induces sound sleep. It’s beneficial for anyone who experiences restlessness, insomnia, hyperactivity, tension, or overuse of the sense organs, like with all-day screen time.

Co-taught by Eric Maklan, PhD, Rolfer, LMT of Chattanooga Bodyworks, and wife Jennifer Maklan, Ayurvedic Physician, of Chattanooga Ayurveda, this class will provide you with the skills to give a transportive head massage experience to yourself or your loved ones. You’ll learn the benefits, techniques, and materials to use, so you can make this a part of your daily routine as a self-massage, or provide to a friend or family member. Come with an old shirt (something you don’t mind getting oil on), an old bandana or head wrap, and a partner to practice on, or partner up with another attendee. Delight in this wonderful experience.

About the instructors:

Eric Maklan, PhD, Rolfer, LMT

Eric Maklan is a Certified Rolfer and the owner of Chattanooga Bodyworks. Eric was a Ph.D. student in molecular, cell, and developmental biology at the University of California when a series of minor rock climbing injuries left him in severe pain. Prescription painkillers and muscle relaxants didn’t help, but Rolfing Structural Integration melted the tension and relieved almost all of the pain after one session. Eric changed direction and became a Certified Rolfer to bring the highest level of manual therapy to every body. He holds certificates in the treatment of common injury, neural and visceral mobilization, and has trained in Ayurvedic therapies in India. His specialties are in Rolfing Structural Integration and working with clientele who have not benefited from traditional approaches. He offers Ayurvedic therapies at the Isha Institute of Inner-sciences in McMinnville, TN throughout the year during their Ayurvedic Rasayana programs.

Jennifer Maklan, Ayurvedic Physician
Jennifer Maklan founded Chattanooga Ayurveda, a classical Ayurveda practice, to bring authentic and effective holistic health methods to the Chattanooga community. A New Hampshire native, Jennifer loves the long hot summers, rolling mountain plateaus, and warm Southern hospitality that Chattanooga offers. She moved here to be near the Isha Institute of Inner-sciences and practice yoga and meditation regularly. Jennifer studied Ayurveda with Jessica Vellela at Ayu.Academy and then with Kashyapa Fisher at the Samudra Ayurvedic Physicians Program. She’s committed to authentic Ayurveda as an effective holistic method to reestablish a balanced state of health.
